I know I said the movie meme would likely be the last you’d see on this site. “Likely be”. That gives me the out to do these. But really, it’s my site and I can do whatever I want, but by way of explanation- Music is essential to who I am. Song lyrics have a tendency to speak volumes to me. So this was a fun one I wanted to do.
Name That Tune…
1
Side by side,
with you till the end,
i’ll always be the one to firmly hold your hand
David got the name of this one, and I was going to give him the point for the artist as well, but Kat got that before I updated this, so they’re sharing the credit. Shoulder To Cry On by Tommy Page. My favorite song ever.
2
I’m weak, it’s true
I’m just scared to know the ending
Do you see me too?
Do you even know you met me?
Kelly got this one, and well she should have since I got it from her. True by Ryan Cabrera. I LOVE this song.
3
Turn out the light
Just say goodnight to yourself
May I remind you, When you find you
Are all alone is when you’ve got to be strong
4
Like sand on my feet
The smell of sweet perfume
You stick to me forever baby
5
And even as I wander
I’m keeping you in sight
You’re a candle in the window
On a cold, dark winter’s night
Kat got this one. Can’t Fight This Feeling by REO Speedwagon.
6
Been so long
I can’t believe I feel somethin so sweet
Where an ache used to be, don’t fall
In love anymore but I never met anyone like you before
David got this one. I figured he would, as he helped me on my wild goose chase to find out what it was a few weeks ago. Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart by Alison Krauss and Shenandoah.
7
I’ll stay away
Don’t have to face this
It’s my mistake
And no one’s business
8
Do you remember telling me
You found the sweetest thing of all
You said one day this was worth dying for
So be thankful you knew her at all
Kelly got this one too. See the Sun by Dido. I heard this one on the radio one morning and fell in love with its haunting lyrics.
9
I drink myself of newfound pity
Sitting alone in new york city
And I don’t know why
Kat got this one too. The World I Know by Collective Soul.
10
It makes a sound like thunder,
It makes me feel like rain.
And like a fool who will never see the truth,
I keep thinking something’s gonna change.
Rasee got this one. “Sometimes Love Just Ain’t Enough,” Patti Smyth & Don Henley. I was obsessed with this song for a really long time, and sometimes it can still make me cry.
11
I have my books and my poetry to protect me
I am shielded in my armor
Hiding in my room safe within my womb
I touch no one and no one touches me
Michael got this one, though he was unsure he had the name of the song right (which he did). “I Am a Rock” by Simon and Garfunkel. I used to feel a lot like the guy in the song when I was younger. Not so much anymore though, which I am happy about.
12
Don’t carry the world upon your shoulders.
For well you know that it’s a fool who plays it cool
By making his world a little colder.
Kat got this. Hey Jude by the Beatles. I’ve had to endure much singing of this in my general direction over my lifetime. And it’s not easy finding a string of more than 2 verses that don’t actually have the words “hey Jude” in them.
13
I have tasted my own hunger
Sold my body to survive
Some have paid to scratch the surface
But they can’t touch what’s inside
Kat got this one too, and says “I stand guilty of an absolute obsession with that album when I was younger”. Me too babe, me too. I just rediscovered this song after many many years, and damn, it packs just as much of a punch now as it did then. Maybe more now that I’ve done a bit of outreach to homeless teens.
14
There’s only one way up so your heart’s got to go there
Through the darkest nights
You see the light shine bright
When heroes fall in love or war they live forever
Kelly got this one too. Song for the Lonely by Cher. I’m not a huge Cher fan (don’t hate me, I’m just the wrong generation) but I really liked her Living Proof Album.
15
Morning helps her find her way blind
And I love her more than I can tell
Heaven help me now
Seems I found to find her just as well
16
I will see you in the light of a thousand suns
I will hear you in the sound of the waves
I will know you when I come, as we all will come
Through the doors beyond the grave
17
Everyone around love them, love them
Put it in your hands Take it take it
There’s no time to cry Happy happy
Put it in your heart Where tomorrow shines
18
Can I get your hand to write on
Just a piece of leg to bite on
What a night to fly my kite on
Do you want to flash your light on
19
I like it when its difficult
I like it when its hard
Then you know its worth it
That you found your heart
20
Kiss Me too fiercely
Hold me too tight
I need help beliving
You’re with me tonight
5. “Can’t Fight This Feeling,” REO Speedwagon
9. “The World I Know,” Collective Soul
12. “Hey Jude,” The Beatles
13. “Children of the Night,” Richard Marx (I stand guilty of an absolute obsession with that album when I was younger.)
I can play “name that tune” and name most songs in two notes, but I can’t do this. Although I’d be somewhat surprised if these end up being songs I know.
You are pretty creative..just wondering if we all have this vacumn in our heart… a lonely feeling that needs a friend.
10. “Sometimes Love Just Ain’t Enough,” Patti Smith & Don Henley.
11. Simon & Garfunkle, though I don’t know the precise title of the song– “I Am a Rock (I Am an Island)”(?)
2. “True” by Ryan Cabrera
8. “See the Sun” by Dido
14. “Song for the Lonely” by Cher
#6 — Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart – Alison Kraus
These are hard.
#1 A Shoulder to Cry On – but I don’t know who by…. And it’s an easy name like Jimmy or Timmy or James or Tony or something….shit shit shit
#1 – Tommy Page! Damn, I knew I knew that one, too.
I’m stunned I didn’t get one. I always have music playing. Must be our age difference.
